Mail application stuck at Checking for Mail indefinitely after failed picture send

Hello

Last night I tried to email myself 2 large pictures (1.5MB each) from my hotmail to my gmail since I recently formatted my laptop and do not want to connect my phone via USB cable (no itunes yet).. anyway the first picture email went through perfectly..the other one just dissappeared and is nowhere to be found on the email servers. Now my mail application starts "checking for mail" everytime I open it indefinitely.

But wait there's more..this is also happening on my ipad 3 which has the same email accounts on it..it also "checks for mail"indefinitely.

I can still get new mail..but this constant checking is so annoying.

Tried:

Rebooting

Shutting off completely

Deleting all email accounts

Looking on email server for stuck emails

All of this doesnt work..even if i delete all mail accounts from settings..the mail app keep checking for mail!!!

help plsss
