Cannot connect to iTunes and backups are missing

Hello,

With the holidays its hard to say exactly when this first began, but my last iPhone backup is December 21st, 2012.

I cannot get iTunes to recognize the iPhone either by WiFi or by a direct USB connection.  Looking at iTunes/preferences/devices the backup for the phone is no longer there either.

I have restarted iTunes, the phone, and the computer several times in different orders.  Nothing seems to have any effect.

I'm using an iPhone 4S (6.02) and a Mac Pro running iTunes (11.01).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
