Can someone help in transferring info pls

I have a just bought a new iphone 5 yeah!  Wanted to transfer contacts etc from my old iphone 3.  I uploaded these contacts to itunes on my imac.  My mac is running OSX 10.5.8 and iTunes 6 10.6.1.  When i connected the iphone 5 to restore itunes said it needed itunes 10.7 or greater.  So I downloded itunes from www.itunes.com but wont complete load as it says my mac say support this?   can anyone help pls?  just want to get contacts and photos from the iphone 3 across to new phone?  tks   PK646
