GPS will work on mid ocean

Hi, a friend and I had a pretty deep discusion about the positioning function in an iPhnoe or iPad.

My quastion is "What Apple product have a built in GPS, the one that will work on mid ocean?"

Whith "GPS" I mean the type of GPS that is widely used on boats that circumnavigate.
