have problem while updating IOS

iphone Module :: 4s,

when am trying to update latest IOS thought WiFi it show's itunes icon in my phone and it's required to  connect itune and download ios once i did like that it remove all apps and other data

It is downloaded full IOS [tatime taken 3 -4 hour ] and update process is starts it is like Restore factory setting
