iCloud syncing

I would like to start syncing with iCloud again, I used to with my old iPhone 4, and after having a galaxy s2, iCloud wasn't used and all my contacts/everything else is not up to date, is there a way to delete everything on my iCloud to I start syncing with my iPhone 5? Will it delete my contacts on my iPhone or just back them up in the cloud? Thanks/
