have to buy an album if my wife has already

OK, to expand on that...

My wife recently bought Bad Blood by Bastille (I highly recommend it by the way) through iTunes on our laptop at home. She also transferred it from her library onto her phone so we could listen in the car. But I have a query about the whole sharing thingy, and I'm sure its been discussed literally thousands of times...

If I want this album on my iphone, do I have to buy it too?

Is Digital Rights Management really that finicky?

Surely there must be some precedent for people living in the same house to be able to share music on THEIR device. I know its simply a rights issue, but it would make you wonder why CD sales have dropped so much. And I know you are going to say "you should have got it on CD then", but to be honest, our tastes in music are generally different, chalk and cheese (Think Jean-Michel Jarre for me, and Katie Perry for her!!).

I'll also say that we run iTunes on different windows profiles, as do my kids. I'm up to date on both iOS and iTunes versions and I have ripped my CD collection to the laptop and have bought several albums on iTunes myself without wondering whether they could share them on their devices.

So, I'm missing something, right? Or am I....
