music app doesn't work

just yesterday, after several days of iOS6 functioning "normally" now the Music app completely fails to respond. All I receive is nonfuncitoning menus and a large "unhappy" iCloud icon where my music should be listed. It appears to be wanting to perform an update, as there's a progress bar below it, and this doesn't seem to be doing anything.
