how to ensure iphone 5 locked

I need my phone to be locked in order to use my corporate email system, but I'm not sure if it is.  I can only find previous strings about how to unlock a phone, not how to tell whether or not it's locked.  And I don't have another SIM card to try out.  Can someone please tell me how to check it?  Just bought the phone 2 days ago at Best Buy and Verizon is my carrier.
