Text message time stamps are off sync

This isn't an issue that disables me from using my phone, but I feel it is a feature that should be more refined then how it stands. When I recieve an SMS at, let's say, 7:30 p.m. and that same person sends a message again at 7:36 p.m., the thread shows the most recent message being sent at 7:30 p.m. Is there any way to fix this?
