Customizing text messages

I have an iPhone 4 through AT&T, my friend who has some sort of iPhone (not sure which one or who through) posted this picture and I was wondering how to make the contact name appear above the text bubbles like how she has her Dad on this in particular one. Is anyone sure how to do it and/or if I can do it with my iPhone and carrier?
