Sync won't start

Tonight I've been trying to sync my iPhone 4 (iOS 6), and it just spins on Step 1, then gives me a popup that says 'The iPhone "[name]" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start.' I've tried six times now. After the 4th time, I powered down my phone and restarted it. The problem persists.
